One from the archives, taken back in February last year. A combination of twilight, a still evening and high tide provided an excellent photo opportunity. This is a composite of two exposures, manually comped together in Photoshop to make a panoramic view of the Humber beneath the famous bridge.

The two lighthouses at Spurn – the “Low Light” to the left which is the older building, and the “High Light” to the right, up on the point itself. Both lighthouses are no longer in service, replaced by electronic navigation beacons.

Another from the archives. This was taken in February this year and is another from my Humberscapes series. A night shot of the Humber Bridge, stretching out across the river looking south towards Lincolnshire. The shadows cast onto the water and the foreshore from the street lights on the bridge made for an interesting composition.

Another of last night’s spectacular sunset – one of those that just keeps getting better as the sun goes down. I ended up taking about 65 pictures of maybe just three slightly different views.

I had to stop at Brough Haven again on the way home from work tonight. The sunset was a real corker. This long shot of the distant power stations belching their clouds smoke and steam drew my attention. As the sun sank below the horizon the lighting subtly shifted and altered. Of the many shots I took this one stood out from the rest due to the backlighting on those plumes. From left to right the three power stations are at Ferrybridge, Eggborough and Drax. The Humber from Brough Haven, just after tonight’s sunset. Now the evenings are drawing in it’s pretty easy to get these on the way home from work.

I‘ve shot it before and I’ll shoot it again. The crumbling Scott Street bridge in Hull, a grade II listed building which is too costly to repair (£5M) or remove (£125K), and is maintained in its state of dereliction by Hull City Council at a cost of £500 per year.

I seem to have let things slip and it’s been a while since I posted. Last week the Hull flickr crowd met up for a walk around the Wincolmlee / Bankside area of the city. I wasn’t too hapy with the shots I took at first, but having started to work through them in Photoshop they seem to be shaping up quite well. This is one of the surprises – fairly bland image in the camera, but a bit of tonal work has really brought the sky to life.
