Tuesday night looking over Hull Marina - formerly the Humber Dock – with the last of the sun. The remains of Pepis bar and restaurant is in view to the left of the frame.

Shot from St Andrew’s Dockside looking across the old dock basin towards the derelict Lord Line building. The dock was closed in the mid 1970s, about ten years after this picture was taken.

It was a cold and bleak on Hornsea beach when I took this back in December. It reminds me of this shot despite the differences.

All These Places Feel Like Home

A well placed groyne provided a suitable camera platform for this half-a-second exposure on Hornsea beach. A polarising filter (the rim just visible at the corners of the frame) was all I had to slow down the shutter speed to achieve the blurry foam trails left behind by the receding wash. Shame about the horizon. Maybe I’ll have a tripod with me next time.

Out With The Old, In With The New

We drove out to the coast yesterday. It was nice and bleak, just the thing to blow away a few Christmas cobwebs. This was taken on the beach at Withernsea, deserted but for a few fishermen and a pair of photographers.

Eight hundred year old remains of the octagonal chapterhouse at Thornton Abbey in Lincolnshire. Very similar to this shot – I can’t really choose between them.

“Prinny Quay” As It Is Sometimes Known

There doesn’t seem to be much time for photography at the moment - most of my energy is going into a work-related project. But this just goes to show that I still occasionally get to wander the streets of Hull with a camera to hand.

Princes Quay Shopping Centre of course, taken from round the back at the south east corner of the Princes Dock.

One #3

It’s been a while since I went out with the camera – work commitments have been getting in the way. Me ’n’ the missus spent an hour wandering around the marina last night, hoping to get something of the sunset. The sun set further north than we thought it would - not over the river at all, so most of the marina itself was in shade well before sundown.

I was pleasantly surprised by this shot of Nº One, Humber Quays – the clean lines of the building and the sunset colours have given it an illustrated or CGI quality which I really like.

The Only Verdict

The back door (or western entrance) to the new St. Stephen’s shopping centre in Hull. It’s an easy shot, but that’s it out of the way. Next time I might be able to see past it and get something a little less obvious (security permitting).

A view of Hull’s KC Stadium from the empty “Executive Car Park” to the south. This was taken with my new polarising filter, which I picked up from fellow flickr member altitudezero at a recent meet.
