Down The Beach from duncmc via flickr.
The beach at Santa Monica, Los Angeles, USA, looking south from the pier. Typically smoggy conditions for the time of day/year.
Hmmm, almost a month since my last post. Tut tut.

Clouding The Issue from duncmc via flickr.
The cooling towers of the mighty Drax power station populate the skies of East Yorkshire with their cloudy emissions.

Losing The Light from duncmc via flickr.
An archive shot of the Humber Bridge from February this year. Again the high tide and stillness of the water made great conditions for photography. I have often been accused of adding the vertical light reflections artificially, but other than a white balance adjustment to remover the orange cast from the street lamps, and tweaking the contrast and saturation, this is as it came out of the camera.

There’s No Time For Dreams from duncmc via flickr.
I had to stop at Brough Haven again on the way home from work tonight. The sunset was a real corker. This long shot of the distant power stations belching their clouds smoke and steam drew my attention. As the sun sank below the horizon the lighting subtly shifted and altered. Of the many shots I took this one stood out from the rest due to the backlighting on those plumes. From left to right the three power stations are at Ferrybridge, Eggborough and Drax. To see how this works on Google Maps go here

The Humber from Brough Haven, just after tonight’s sunset. Now the evenings are drawing in it’s pretty easy to get these on the way home from work.

Malmaison from duncmc via flickr.
The Malmaison in Gateshead, Newcastle. A strange name for a chain of such swanky hotels as it translates to something like “bad house” from the French. This shot was taken from the opposite side of the Tyne, looking through the supporting cables of the landmark Millennium Bridge.

Speed Bonnie Boat from duncmc via flickr.
Upturned fishing coble at the top of the hill, Flamborough North Landing, East Yorkshire. This type of boat has a distinctive shape – high bowed and flat bottomed. It is designed to be launched and landed on shallow sandy beaches in heavy seas, and is traditionally used along the North East coast from Hull up to the Scottish borders.

They Might Be Giants #many from duncmc via flickr.
Pylons as far as the eye can see. Taken just outside the village of Brantingham looking south west. The lampost marks the A63 running left to right beyond the hedge in the foreground.

They Might Be Giants #1 from duncmc via flickr.
I’m not sure whether he’s the leader of the pack or just a straggler. Or even a “he” come to think of it. All will be revealed in my next post.
