Black Mill on Beverley Westwood. The streaky patterns in the sky are what caught my attention here. Although quite a bit more subtle in real life, a bit of processing has brought them out. I quite like the watercolour-like effect they give.

Tucked away at the north west corner of Beverley Westwood is a small area of Oak woodland known as Burton Bushes. There is evidence to suggest that this is a surviving patch of ancient forest, such as would have once covered the entire Westwood and beyond.

It’s Very Easy To Be Cold

Got up and out early on Sunday morning to catch the sunrise over Beverley Westwood. The light wasn’t as inspiring as we had hoped it might be, but I managed to get two or three shots that were worthwhile. This was one of the first I took, just before the sun came up.

The nice people at VFXY have selected my blog as their Weekly Pic-k, which I’m chuffed to bits about. As a result I will try to post regularly over the next seven days.

Oh, and thanks to JC for the loan of his Sigma 10-20mm for the weekend. Cheers mate!

Resting Place

I spent August Bank Holiday afternoon on Beverley Westwood with family and friends (a couple of weeks ago now). I went off for a bit of a mooch with the camera, and took a few shots from which I wasn’t expecting very much. However after a bit of Photoshop work it seems I managed to turn out a couple of gems and here is one of them.

I’m not sure what it was about this spot, but it seemed to have a peaceful feeling about it. I thought the well worn grass in front of the bench was quite charming – obviously a popular spot for a sit down. The minster is just visible in the centre distance, towering above the rooftops of Beverley.

What’s That Coming Over The Hill?

Hardly an original viewpoint, but it seems that access to the church yard is denied to the public most of the time which limits the options somewhat. This is Beverley Minster shot through the railings on fairly dull day – still managed to slightly over expose the sky on the right though.
