An Alternative Crop

An Alternative Crop by duncmc

An Alternative Crop from duncmc via flickr.

As I drove past on the road, the blanket of yellow oilseed rape flowers covering this field was spectacularly cut with swathes of blue. I stopped to take some pictures but after leaving the car, climbing over a fence and walking 100 yards to the edge of the field the effect was completely lost.

I think the blue flowers are borage (or starflower) – presumably the remains of a previous year’s crop.

Looking For Life

Looking For Life by duncmc

Looking For Life from duncmc via flickr.

I’m drawn down to the river again by the setting sun, but with nothing particular to take a picture of. I took a few of the sun going down but this was the only one I took looking in the other direction, and it turned out the best. Once again I used a tonemapped HDR layer to pull out detail in the mud and the rocks.

Stepping Lightly On Hallowed Ground

Stepping Lightly On Hallowed Ground by duncmc

Stepping Lightly On Hallowed Ground from duncmc via flickr.

St Mary’s Church in Elloughton, East Yorkshire, UK. The church is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, but the present structure was originally built in the latter half of the 13th Century. The tower was added later, and finished around 1530. The medieval building gradually fell into disrepair and was extensively rebuilt in 1846. The church was badly damaged by a fire on 25th October 1964 as a result of faulty wiring, but was restored by the following year.

This shot was taken last Friday evening from the west side of the church. An HDR layer has been used to bring out the detail in the headstones and the sky. I quite like what that has done to the grass as well, in fact I’m very pleased with how this shot has turned out on the whole.

The Last To Remember Her Name by duncmc

The Last To Remember Her Name from duncmc via flickr.

It’s two weeks since the 2007 Ferens Open Exhibition finished. I was fortunate enough to have one of my three submissions accepted, but not so fortunate that anyone liked it enough to buy it. My entry came back yesterday.

This is a photo of the same subject, taken from a different angle last Thursday. And I just made 5000 views on my flickr photostream, so thanks to all those who have visited.

Third and final shot of the series from Hessle Skate Park. This is probably my favourite because of the colours.

The third and final image in the series. This one I like for the shapes, and is probably my favourite of the three.

Chimneys #1 by duncmc

Chimneys #1 from duncmc via flickr.

This is the first of a series of three pictures taken while walking near the river. The subject matter and treatment of all three photos is very similar, but I like each one for different qualities. This one I like for the symmetrical composition.
