Taken at Brough Haven a month ago (film takes time a-cookin’).

An analogue take on this.

Losing The Light

Losing The Light by duncmc

Losing The Light from duncmc via flickr.

An archive shot of the Humber Bridge from February this year. Again the high tide and stillness of the water made great conditions for photography. I have often been accused of adding the vertical light reflections artificially, but other than a white balance adjustment to remover the orange cast from the street lamps, and tweaking the contrast and saturation, this is as it came out of the camera.

It’s Been Forever Since by duncmc

It’s Been Forever Since from duncmc via flickr.

This one was taken in January this year – I stopped on the way to work one morning, arrested by the spectacular pink light cast onto the clouds from the rising sun. When I got down to the river I was thrilled to see the state of the water. The tide was high and the surface of the river was totally calm – my favourite conditions.

Light And Shadow

Light And Shadow by duncmc

Light And Shadow from duncmc via flickr.

Another from the archives. This was taken in February this year and is another from my Humberscapes series. A night shot of the Humber Bridge, stretching out across the river looking south towards Lincolnshire. The shadows cast onto the water and the foreshore from the street lights on the bridge made for an interesting composition.

Muillean Dubh

Muillean Dubh by duncmc

Black Mill on Beverley Westwood. The streaky patterns in the sky are what caught my attention here. Although quite a bit more subtle in real life, a bit of processing has brought them out. I quite like the watercolour-like effect they give.

Heart Of Oak

Heart Of Oak by duncmc

Tucked away at the north west corner of Beverley Westwood is a small area of Oak woodland known as Burton Bushes. There is evidence to suggest that this is a surviving patch of ancient forest, such as would have once covered the entire Westwood and beyond.

It’s Very Easy To Be Cold

It’s Very Easy To Be Cold by duncmc

It’s Very Easy To Be Cold from duncmc via flickr.

Got up and out early on Sunday morning to catch the sunrise over Beverley Westwood. The light wasn’t as inspiring as we had hoped it might be, but I managed to get two or three shots that were worthwhile. This was one of the first I took, just before the sun came up.

The nice people at VFXY have selected my blog as their Weekly Pic-k, which I’m chuffed to bits about. As a result I will try to post regularly over the next seven days.

Oh, and thanks to JC for the loan of his Sigma 10-20mm for the weekend. Cheers mate!

Zephyr In The Sky

Zephyr In The Sky by duncmc

Zephyr In The Sky from duncmc via flickr.

I spotted this nice bit of sky over the Humber on the way to work this morning.

My EF-S 10-22mm wide angle lens is currently heading west out of Morrocco on the Hull Freedom Trail and it feels like I’ve lost my right arm. It does mean I have the opportunity to try out my new eBay acquisitions. This shot was taken with a Russian made Jupiter 135mm prime lens that is built like a tank and smells like a mechanic’s overalls. However I’m blown away by its sharpness. I need to do some tests against the Canon EF 28-135 which is my usual lens for this range, but I’m pretty sure the Jupiter is going to come out on top for image quality - not bad at under £14 all in.

Above And Beyond by duncmc

Above And Beyond from duncmc via flickr.

Here’s another view of the Humber Bridge in that incredible fog last Friday morning. I had the luxury of a little more time on this one. It’s had more processing and a more judicious crop, and for me it’s a better image.
