A well placed groyne provided a suitable camera platform for this half-a-second exposure on Hornsea beach. A polarising filter (the rim just visible at the corners of the frame) was all I had to slow down the shutter speed to achieve the blurry foam trails left behind by the receding wash. Shame about the horizon. Maybe I’ll have a tripod with me next time.

I think the horizon adds to the surreal feel of this to be honest!
    Nice shot

I agree, the wonky horizon feels like it wasa deliberate. The sense of movement in this is great. Excellent shot

In general I like. [New years resolution - understate your comments Carl. Understate them]

Thought the tripod was getting swept away!

[ For those of us not up on coastal engineering lingo: "A groyne (groin in the United States) is a rigid hydraulic structure built from an ocean shore (in coastal engineering) or from a bank (in rivers) that interrupts water flow and limits the movement of sediment. In the ocean, groynes create beaches, or avoid having them washed away...."]

The linear movement and angle makes this look like it was shot from a low flying aircraft!

My father’s, father’s, father was named Duncan McMillan! On a whim I “googled” it. I wonder if my love of photography (particularly black and white)and ability is genetically influenced? Your photography is absolutely spectacular!

    Truely,
    Cathy

Great surreal effect. Makes you feel like you’re being dragged into the picture.
