What’s That Coming Over The Hill?

What’s That Coming Over The Hill? by duncmc

What’s That Coming Over The Hill? from duncmc via flickr.

Hardly an original viewpoint, but it seems that access to the church yard is denied to the public most of the time which limits the options somewhat. This is Beverley Minster shot through the railings on fairly dull day – still managed to slightly over expose the sky on the right though.

Blue Sea Spotted Off The North East Coast Of England by duncmc

Blue Sea Spotted Off The North East Coast Of England from duncmc via flickr.

North Landing at Flamborough, East Yorkshire on the North East coast. About an hour before this was taken the sky was black and it was pouring with torrential rain. Here it looks uncharacteristically Meditteranean – British weather, eh?

Speed Bonnie Boat by duncmc

Upturned fishing coble at the top of the hill, Flamborough North Landing, East Yorkshire. This type of boat has a distinctive shape – high bowed and flat bottomed. It is designed to be launched and landed on shallow sandy beaches in heavy seas, and is traditionally used along the North East coast from Hull up to the Scottish borders.

Lock To The Dock by duncmc

Lock To The Dock from duncmc via flickr.

The view along Albert Dock in Hull, looking west from the lock gates at its entrance. HOTA’s lifeboat training facility can be seen to the right and the towers of the Humber Bridge are just visible in the distance if you know what to look for.

Albert Dock & Tower Blocks

Albert Dock & Tower Blocks by duncmc

Albert Dock & Tower Blocks from duncmc via flickr.

Hull’s Albert Dock taken from the “footpath in the sky” – the public footpath that runs across the shed rooves by the dockside. The orange lifeboats are part of the HOTA (Humberside Offshore Training Association) facility. The four suspended over the quayside are for practising ship evacuation drills, and the one at the top of the yellow tower is used to train for oil and gas rigs.

The buildings directly behind are the Odeon cinema (left) and the Ice Arena (right). The tower blocks of Great Thornton Street can be seen on the skyline to the right, with Hull Royal Infirmary just left of centre, and the two blocks off Porter Street to the left of that.

More detail can be seen in the larger version.

Deep & Distant by duncmc

Deep & Distant from duncmc via flickr.

Shot from Island Wharf in Hull looking across the entrance to the Humber Dock basin (which leads to Hull Marina), with Victoria Pier beyond and the Deep looming in the distance. That’s the River Humber to the right.

Pylons as far as the eye can see. Taken just outside the village of Brantingham looking south west. The lampost marks the A63 running left to right beyond the hedge in the foreground.

They Might Be Giants #1 by duncmc

I’m not sure whether he’s the leader of the pack or just a straggler. Or even a “he” come to think of it. All will be revealed in my next post.

When It’s All Over We Still Have To Clear Up

When It’s All Over We Still Have To Clear Up by duncmc

When It’s All Over We Still Have To Clear Up from duncmc via flickr.

Another bridge shot which has been languishing on my Mac for a couple of weeks. This was taken the day after this one – another very low tide on the way to work. Again the surface of the Humber was very still, but the light was different so the water wasn’t so mirror-like. In fact I like how clear the water is in this one – a change from its usual brown soupy appearance.

Sendero Luminoso by duncmc

Sendero Luminoso from duncmc via flickr.

So there I was down at the very edge of the water at low tide, and a long way from terra firma. The surface of the Humber was like mirror – everywhere I looked there was a view worth photographing. So many pictures it took two weeks to decide which one to post.
