Here Comes The Rain Again

Here Comes The Rain Again by duncmc

Here Comes The Rain Again from duncmc via flickr.

I nipped out at lunchtime to grab a few shots of the effects of the torrential rain. Here the water flows down Prestongate in Hessle. As well as the run-off from the roads, the pressure in the drains causes water to gush up from below, lifting manhole covers.

Wasn’t it in this area (Hessle) that a man lost his life in the floods today?

My sister (Barnsley) went out and bought a manhole cover this morning to replace one she dropped down the hole. I have no idea where you buy manhole covers - I must ring her back….

Yes he died in Hessle trying to clear a drain for his grandfather.

Nice shot though. Love the lifting manhole cover

I was annoyed at the time ’cos I misplaced a foot and ended up with a shoe full of water. I guess I got off lightly.

    Bloody rain, bloody weather, grumble.
I considered the heating this evening… in Devon!… in JUNE!!

I spotted water pouring out from manhole covers myself a few times in the last week here in Cork. I would have got a picture of it but the rain was too heavy ;)

Oh, this is the first time I’ve seen my Flickr importer plugin used elsewhere!

It’s been torrential hasn’t it. 10/10 for you for getting out and documenting it (unlike me!). Good shot.

It’s a very dramatic shot that really captures the moment.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

Thanks for all the comments. I felt very furtive walking around with the camera under my raincoat, quickly taking it out for a snap then hiding it away again.
