Enough Of The Suspense

Enough Of The Suspense by duncmc

Enough Of The Suspense from duncmc via flickr.

Another of my many shots of the Humber Bridge. I took this back in March and used HDR processing to bring out the detail in the image. I like the quality of the water and the contrast in the underside of the bridge on this one.

Copper Blue

Copper Blue by duncmc

Copper Blue from duncmc via flickr.

One from the archives, and posted today because it just featured in Vazaar’s “Low Light” theme. The version posted to Vazaar has been desaturated, which gives it a more sepia look. I’m not sure which I prefer. The colour treatment here is achieved using an Invert adjustment layer in Photoshop with the layer mode set to “Color”. Basically this reverses the colours much like a negative image, while retaining the luminosity of the original.

The photo is taken in the village of Welton, East Yorkshire and the water in the foreground is the village pond (which used to be a mill pond at one time). It is usually populated with hungry ducks.

Waiting For Billy

Waiting For Billy by duncmc

Waiting For Billy from duncmc via flickr.

It’s great when you find a point of view that makes a worthwhile picture out of the mundane. I drive under this bridge on my way to and from work, and it has been on my “to do” list since I saw this on flickr back in December last year.

The picture is taken underneath the approach road to the Humber Bridge, where it crosses Ferriby Road in Hessle.

What Lies Beneath

What Lies Beneath by duncmc

What Lies Beneath from duncmc via flickr.

Walk upriver along the Humber bank for about a mile from Brough Haven and in the tidal zone there is a series of pools where water collects. This is one of them. Despite how clear the water looks, the bed of the pool is very soft and very muddy (and is easily disturbed by stick-throwing children just as the shutter is about to be released).

Flickr Comments

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

I just installed Donncha O Caoimh’s “Flickr Comment Importer” plug in for WordPress. If you’re using Flickr to host images for your WordPress blog, then this plug-in imports recent comments from your photostream using Flickr’s RSS feed. The plug-in has a few limitations but works well and is easy to set up. You can read about it and download it from Donncha’s photoblog InPhotos here.

Donncha O Caoimh is one of the developers who worked on WordPress. InPhotos was the first photoblog I subscribed to when I rediscovered photography last year.

[Edit]

I have turned off comments on this post as it has been attracting a massive number of spam comments for some reason.

Line Between The Reeds

Line Between The Reeds by duncmc

Line Between The Reeds from duncmc via flickr.

Following on from yesterday’s picture from Brough Haven, here is one from the archives taken from almost the same spot, albeit a different time of day, viewpoint and tide state.

This was shot early morning at high tide back in February, looking south-west towards Lincolnshire. The weather was very still and the river calm. This is another image from my Humberscapes collection.

Footprints In The Mud

Footprints In The Mud by duncmc

Footprints In The Mud from duncmc via flickr.

Exposed mudflats at the entrance to Brough Haven on the River Humber. The surface of the mud is criss-crossed with tracks left by birdlife looking for food at low tide.

I’ve take quite a lot of photos down by the haven recently, but I haven’t been too happy with the results. It’s a place with plenty of mood and atmosphere, but very little in the way of photogenic subject matter. After a bit of work on the colours and tonality I’m quite pleased with the way this one has turned out.

Spring Is In The Air

Spring Is In The Air by duncmc

Spring Is In The Air from duncmc via flickr.

A fanfare of daffodils announces the arrival of Spring in East Yorkshire. I‘m not sure whether it came in over the Humber Bridge or up the M62, but it‘s here.

Taken with my newly acquired (via eBay) Vredeborch Felica – the “posh toy camera”. Cross processed, naturally.

A Moment To Reflect

A Moment To Reflect by duncmc

A Moment To Reflect from duncmc via flickr.

I took this photo back in January. The setting sun had painted the sky with some very nice colours, which is what I was interested in when I took the shot. However the lone figure and the low view point gave the shot a certain mood which I thought was enhanced by the monotone treatment.

This image was featured in Vazaar’s “Solitude” theme and is another from my Humberscapes collection. (That’s the Humber Bridge in the background by the way.)

A Sustainable Forest

A Sustainable Forest by duncmc

A Sustainable Forest from duncmc via flickr.

Another shot from the arc building in Hull. This is an upshot of the forest of wind turbines and photovoltaic panels that provide power for the building.
